About CAES
Since its establishment in 1992, the Centre for Applied English Studies (CAES) under the Faculty of Arts at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has been a leading centre for teaching and scholarship in academic literacy. We provide English for Academic and Specific Purposes (EAP and ESP) courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students across all disciplines at HKU. We also run a well-established Masters in Applied Linguistics (MAAL) and co-run a Masters in TESOL (MATESOL) with the Faculty of Education as well as supervise PhD students in the field of Applied Linguistics. We also have many years of experience providing training programmes for university and school teachers and staff.
The Professional Development Programme in Teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) provides participants with a good foundation and solid understanding of the current principles and practices of teaching and learning in the field of English for Academic Purposes. It offers participants a unique opportunity to meet professional EAP teachers, develop professional networks and advance their pedagogical knowledge and teaching skills.
